Getting to Ubon Ratchathani

getting_to_ubonOne of the great things about Ubon Ratchathani is the variety of ways available to travel to and from Ubon. I love travelling around Thailand and love to see different life in each part of Thailand. The combination of being in Isaan and having access to multiple modes of transportation is the perfect situation. Travel to, and around in Thailand by planes, trains and automobiles and buses too.

Travel from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani can be completed in 1 hour to 12 hours. It all depends on your budget, travel situation and how much time you have. Buses and trains are the best option for you who have more time than money. It is also a great way to see the Thai countryside. 270 Baht to 700 Baht will get you a one-way bus or rail ticket, either direction. If time is of the essence for you, why not fly here. There are 3 daily flights from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Ubon. If you have a car you can drive too, it will take at least 8 hours of driving time. So you can see getting here is no problem at all. Transportation is convenient and economical.

By Air

This definitely makes Ubon a choice destination if you are traveling in Thailand. You will fly to Ubon from one of two Bangkok airports depending and which airline you are flying with. The flight time is a little over 1 hour and ticket prices range from around 1300 Baht to around 3000 Baht.

By Train

by_trainThe railway station is just outside of Ubon City, across the Mun River in Warin Chamrap district. There are many transportation options from the city center. The trip can take 25-40 minutes depending on the mode you choose. Coming here from Bangkok by train you would want to go to Hua Lampong, Bangkok's main train station, It's quite and experience. Leaving Ubon you can choose from a wide variety of times, fares and classes for your rail journey. Overnight sleepers (471-1,280 Baht), express (551 Baht), economy (270-551 Baht), just to name a few. It's a great way to see the sights along to route to Ubon and is economical too. Getting to Ubon by rail is a great way to travel.

By Bus

by_busTravelling to Ubon by bus is about the most popular way to get here. A wide selection of classes and fares to match. Most of the buses run overnight. You can get VIP class express that takes about 8 hours or a low fare "local' that makes many stops and sometimes standing room only on board. Fares and classes start from 450-700 Baht

You can get advanced tickets on some bus lines but many are pay as you go. It's fairly easy to get seats from Bangkok and Pattaya. From Ubon you not only can you get buses to Bangkok but also all over Isaan and even to Chiang Mai. In addition to the main bus terminal there are several private bus terminals scattered around the city too. No lack of transportation here. Have a good trip to Ubon Ratchathani.
