Ayutthaya World Heritage Fair

Located only one hour away from Bangkok, the ancient captital of Siam has always been a major tourist destination for it's historical significance and beautiful ruins and art works.During the month of December, there's yet another reason to make the short journey from the capital to the ancient Kingdom of Ayutthaya. For one week Ayutthaya celebrates it's glorious past the status as a UNESCO World Heritage site, which it gained in 1991, by holding an annual fair.
This year 's edition will include cultural performances that give you an insight into Thai customs and traditions, such as breathtaking light and sound presentation on the historyof Ayutthaya, and traditional cultural processions.
There are other activities for visitors to see and take part in, such as agricutural and food fairs, a singing competition, and many other exhibitions on Ayutthaya. You can also take home some traditional Thai souvenirs from OTOP counters (One Tambon One Product), a project that aims to promote Thai heritage through locally made produce,such as handicrafts, clothes and jewellery, while genereting income for Thai families living in rural parts of the country.
During December, Ayutthaya celebrates the splendor and glory of its past with displays of traditional culture and lifestyles, various entertainments, and a memorable light and sound show - all with the fitting backdrop of Ayutthaya's ancient ruins and temples.
The Ayutthaya Historical Park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. The Park covers much of the old town of present-day Ayutthaya and includes most of the important temple and palace ruins from the Ayutthaya Era (1350 to 1767).
