Part of Thailand's tourist development strategy is to promote traditional festivals to an international audience. Which isn't to say they don't occassionally invent some new ones. Here's a list of the biggest festivals around Thailand.
H.M. The King's Birthday Celebration
ACROSS THAILAND, DECEMBER 5
H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world's longest reigning monarch, is well beloved and deeply respected by all Thais old and young. The occasion of his royal birthday provides his loyal subjects the opportunity to express their reverence for him. All over the country, buildings and homes are elaborately decorated and the area around the Grand Palace is spectacularly illuminate.
Ayutthaya World Heritage Fair

Located only one hour away from Bangkok, the ancient captital of Siam has always been a major tourist destination for it's historical significance and beautiful ruins and art works.During the month of December, there's yet another reason to make the short journey from the capital to the ancient Kingdom of Ayutthaya. For one week Ayutthaya celebrates it's glorious past the status as a UNESCO World Heritage site, which it gained in 1991, by holding an annual fair.
